Blackstone Park
Truly, Blackstone Park is an excellent place for the adventurous ones to explore, especially if you’re looking for a spectrum of recreational activities. The park opens daily and is situated near downtown. The amenities here include racquetball courts, softball and baseball fields, a playground, and a soccer field. Independence Day Celebration
Small towns from all over the nation celebrate Independence Day with festivals, parades, and firework showcases. Palmetto celebrates the fourth of July in Palmetto Bay Park; an event featuring lots of great food, art and craft, alongside rides and games. Fireworks don’t start until 9pm, however.
Manatee County Fair
Fun fact: The Manatee County Fair will soon reach its centennial milestone. Despite its humble beginnings, the fair has hugely grown over the past decades. Today, it is a premier yearly attraction in the region, hosting rides that resemble theme park attractions and games, food production events, and live entertainment, alongside delectable food options. Taking place over 11 days in January, the fair takes place at the Manatee County Fairgrounds.
Boca Ciega Bay Sunset Cruise
Palmetto’s prime location on the Gulf coast has attracted many to visit and experience a beautiful sunset or two. There’s something breathtaking about witnessing the sunset from a boat – though it’s possible to do it from land too. Sailing on the Boca Ciega Bay Sunset Cruises from Dolphin Landing in St. Petersburg takes roughly two hours. These cruises come with free soft drinks, with alcohol also available at extra costs. The water can be cold even in summer, so remember to bring an additional sweater!
De Soto Seafood Festival
It is believed that when Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto first arrived in Florida in 1539, he had asked about a seafood festival. Since 1986, the destination named after the explorer has been hosting a yearly event that pays homage to the city’s superb seafood options. It is held in April over three days. The grand festival attracts lovers of seafood, playing host to some 100,000 visitors every year! It’s an exciting way to eat some excellent food and experience the local culture all at the same time.
