Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum
Operated by the Loxahatchee River Historical Society, this museum offers climbing towers of the 1860 lighthouse. This landmark site offers sweeping, panoramic views of the town from the red lighthouse, painted in 1910 to cover the discoloration caused by humidity. Get into Jupiter’s seaside spirit and pay this site a visit – the waterfront Museum, located in a restored WWII building, offers a plethora of activities. Take your time going through both indoor and outdoor Florida history exhibits, and check out the Tindall Pioneer Homestead and museum gift shop while you’re there. DuBois Park
This historical location is also one of the north county’s most unique swimming beaches. It contains 1, 200 feet of beachfront, a guarded 100 feet lagoon, and other amenities such as picnic areas, a playground, and outdoor showers. DuBois Park also comprises the DuBois Pioneer Home, the National Register of Historical Places, and an “Indian mound”. The park is a rich historical setting and is the most studied site in Florida.
Loxahatchee River Center
The Loxahatchee River Center showcases some of the area’s largest aquariums. With interactive exhibits and diverse wildlife, it has critical environmental value and was created by the Loxahatchee River District to raise awareness about the river and gather support for its preservation. It’s a great place to bring the kids to teach them the importance of safeguarding the environment – its monthly programs include story time, arts and crafts, kids yoga, and aquatic events. For the adults, a lecture series and volunteer opportunities are great activities to take part in.
Jonathan Dickinson State Park
Begin your trip through the park at the Elsa Kimbell Environmental Education and Research Center and tour the park’s natural and cultural resources through interactive displays. Classrooms and a research laboratory give both children and adults a chance to learn more about the park’s natural communities, such as the Loxahatchee River.
