With the constantly evolving medicinal and technological advancements, a large handful of countries are faced with an aging population. While this is a good phenomenon, having a large portion of the population that is more mature also means that you need more activities to engage them aside from the normal care that they receive. Some people might prefer to take up new sports to keep themselves healthy and active, others may prefer to take up arts and crafts to unleash their creativity and relax their minds. Here are some crafts for family members to try!
Creating Suncatchers
To complete this craft, you will require the following:
- Mason jar lids
- Colored glass beads
- Clear-dry glue
- String
- Scissors
- Needle
All you have to do is to create the design that you want on the mason jar and fill it up with glue until the edges of the lid. After which, you would have to wait until the glue sets before prying it out of the lid. Once the piece is out, just use the needle to create a small hole at the top and pull the string through, and you are done!
Knitting Projects
Instead of learning the boring old knitting, try knitting with a purpose. Many charities and orphanages would be sure to accept gifts such as these. Such projects, although small, holds a great impact on society and give opportunities for people who are more mature to make a difference even at their ripe age. Who would not want to feel the fuzzy warmth of giving back to society?
Painting Terracotta Pots
Another way to keep people occupied is through painting! Though painting on canvases is a simpler way to go, terracotta pots are another medium that can be used to make beautiful pieces of art. Also, these pots can be used to decorate your own home and make the surroundings feel homier.
Watercolor Luminaries
Luminaries are also a nice alternative to conventional candle holders and are affordable to make as well. All you need to use are:
- Mason jars that can fit candles
- Glue (PVA)
- Brushes
- Colored tissue paper
- Tealights (either real ones or battery-powered ones)
The first step is to tear the colored tissue papers into random shapes and sizes. Whether you do it yourself or have someone do it for you, it is up to you. After that is done, you can start layering the glue onto the mason jar and put the tissues on top of the glue. This is where your creativity shines, as you can randomly place the tissue paper to make abstract art, or you can become an aspiring artist and make a nice picture with the tissue paper. Once the design is complete, you can leave the mason jar to dry before putting the tealight in the jar. That is it! You have your own homemade lamp cum candleholder!
