We’re all used to doing yoga indoors, either in a yoga studio or in the comfort of our home. However, bringing your yoga session outdoors can have an amazing effect on your body and mind. By pairing yoga with fresh air and sunlight, you get to have the ultimate yoga experience. By taking yoga outdoors, you will also be exposed to the elements, as no mats are required! If you’re ready to step out of your comfort zone, here are five great spots for outdoor yoga.
Your Balcony
If you are looking to start practicing yoga outside but are still not too comfortable doing it in public, your balcony would be a great start. By setting up your yoga mat and some candles, it acts as a great reminder that outdoor yoga is truly accessible. If you are looking for some alone time, escaping from reality right from your balcony is an amazing experience. Consider playing some of your favorite calm and soothing music to fully maximize your outdoor experience.
Your Neighborhood Park
Doing yoga in your neighborhood park can be a great way to make it a weekly affair. Consider inviting your neighbors via text, email, or social media to a weekly socially distant yoga session. What better way to enjoy the fresh air at the park with a yoga class for everyone? To spice things up, consider inviting your little furry friend along as well.
Your Local Lake
Listening to water flowing can be the ultimate relaxing experience for some. Make an outing out of it by packing a picnic to enjoy the beautiful lake views. When you’re done eating, just fold your picnic mat in half to form a makeshift yoga mat to practice a few poses at the lakeside. Try some invigorating poses like cobra pose or hero pose, or relax with child’s pose or savasana. Either way, it is no doubt that you will be in for a treat!
The Beach
Yoga on the sand is a challenge on its own. On the bright side, it can help you prioritize your balance and focus as you complete your yoga session. Also, as sand is soft, it is more forgiving for older adult yogis as falling or tumbling over would be less stressful on your skin and joints. Make sure you find a beach where there is little to no debris in the sand for a more relaxing experience.
At the Pool
If the beach is too crowded for your liking but you still want to relax with the sound of water lapping in the background, the pool may be a better option for you. If you have a pool or have loved ones who don’t mind you using their pool, yoga is a great alternative if you are looking to social distance. If you are feeling brave, you can even consider yoga in the pool! Aqua yoga offers a great low-impact, full-body workout that can improve your balance and strength in the long run.
