Put the chair in front or by the side to provide some support if necessary. Keep at that stance for the preferred duration, then change feet. A rule of thumb is to perform this for one minute for each leg.
Standing Feet Stance
This is one of the most elementary balance exercises for your loved ones. Similar to the tandem stance, it only requires a chair to provide some comfortable support. To start with the standing feet stance, keep the feet together and stand upright. Keep at that position for two minutes. Have the chair by the side just in case. It’s that simple!
Hip Extensions
This balance exercise for your loved ones is a tad challenging for your loved ones but still highly manageable. First, keep the feet together and stand upright. Next, keep one leg raised backward. You can either raise it up slightly or keep the toe in contact with the ground. It is crucial to ensure the knees are straight throughout. Revert to the original position once done and switch legs. This exercise can be repeated 12 times for each leg.
Single-Leg Position
The single-leg position is the balancing exercise for your loved ones that ups the ante! It will be highly helpful to have a chair by the side if your loved ones may be wobbly. First off, start by standing upright, ensuring a straight position. Next, stand on one leg for a preferred duration. Alternate the feet after you’re done. For each leg, you can hold onto the leg for one minute.
Hip Abduction Exercise
This balance exercise for your loved ones is similar to the single-leg position, except that the leg is raised the other way. Start by standing with the feet together. Keep the chair by the side to provide the necessary support, just in case. Next, raise the leg and lift it sideways, away from the body while keeping the toes facing forward during the lift. An optimal distance is 10-15cm away from the floor. Revert to the original position and repeat this for the next leg. This exercise can be repeated 12 times for each leg.
