Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
ADLs are day-to-day activities which are necessary for normal, everyday life. These activities include eating, showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, and being able to move around independently.
Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disease that ensues when cells in the brain are damaged, resulting in complex brain changes. The cause of this is unknown, but age is undoubtedly a risk factor. One of the most common, early sign of Alzheimer’s disease is the inability to retain information.
Continence Management
Continence management refers to the management of a patient’s incontinence. When a patient is incontinent, he or she does not have full control over their bowels and bladder. This can drastically affect the patient’s quality of life.
Dementia
Dementia, a term which is often used, albeit erroneously, interchangeably with Alzheimer’s disease, refers to a variety of symptoms such as decline in memory and reasoning. There are many types of dementia, of which Alzheimer’s disease is the most common one. Other forms of dementia include Cruetzfeldt-Jakob Disease and Parkinson’s Disease.
Emergency Call Response System
An alert system in which the patient can use to alert a member of staff in the community should they experience any medical emergencies.
Glucose Monitoring and Insulin Management
Glucose monitoring refers to the monitoring of a patient’s glucose level. If their glucose level is too high, they will be required to take insulin to ensure that their glucose levels return to acceptable levels, and healthcare professionals trained in insulin management can determine if they need to do so.
Medicaid
Public assistance for individials who are unable to pay for health care. Funding is administered on a state level. Patients can only apply for Medicaid when they have exhausted all avenues of personal funding. Eligibility criteria include one’s level of income.
Medicare
A federal health insurance program for individuals above the age of 65, as well as those with disabilities.
Medication Management
The management of the medication a patient is taking.
